Re: Woodwinds
@ZeeCount how are Berlin Woodwinds to work with? Are they consistent, or are you constantly working around issues? The fact that you use two versions of the library (Original and Revive) at the same time sounds complicated... I've been using Berlin WW for years so I know their quirks by now. It's ...
Re: Woodwinds
A mixture of Berlin Woodwinds (both revive and the original), acoustic samples WW, and cinematic studio woodwind. Berlin does a full woodwind section all in situ playing together the best, acoustic samples for highly detailed and expressive stuff, and cinematic when I need WW to just work with ...

Re: IRCAM SPAT Revolution $99
@ZeeCount What does the second instance of rectangles do in your picture? Why does 'Flute 1' go to 'Flute 1' and then to 'Room'? And if I read the image correctly, you only get a stereo return to your DAW. Is that correct? So you get just one spatialised return for all the instruments you feed into ...

Re: IRCAM SPAT Revolution $99
Well, that sounds hopeful. Are you using it in Cubase Mac, Zee? What are the complications of setup? Doesn't using it as sends obviate the reason to have it (various distance/depth for instruments or sections)? I'm on PC so can't help you there. The setup is a bit unintuitive, but once I figured ...

Re: IRCAM SPAT Revolution $99
I picked it up after getting more and more frustrated with Spat V3 (the old version is now crashing Studio One 2 out of every 3 times I try to load a project using it). Setup was a bit head scratching, but I've got it working and it is vastly improved on the older version from a user interface ...

Yup I have it, and I love it. It's great for panning stereo signals and keeping a sense of the stereo width. Works well on samples if you need to shift the position of a decca tree for example.

And yup I bought it, and yup it is awesome. I've been noodling with the divisi patches for the last hour and they are very inspiring.
That's Genesis, then the Divisi Sopranos, then the Divisi Altos. Close mics only going into Berlin Studio.

Update just came out which, among other things, has added CC control for key, time stretching, and the mic sliders. Good to see they are listening to feedback from their customers.

Re: Crow Hill: String Murmurations (intro £149)
Next level auto accompaniment keyboard. Really nice legato transitions except those you actually play (as far as I can see). The sound is beautiful. But it doesn't look like the performance is following any voice leading. It sounds more like "oh, a new chord, lets play it from there". Yup that's ...

Re: Crow Hill: String Murmurations (intro £149)
Pull up a gesture preset, play a long sustained chord using just the “in key” notes on your keyboard controller. ...and thats it. All the white notes tend to refer to the key of C a happy primary colour, or Amin a sad primary colour. With various “modes” which contain more nuanced and complex harmon ...

Re: East West Hollywood Fantasy Orchestra Strings
I feel like I am reading a thread about 8DIO... Talk about developers being out of touch with everyone else. From what I can see, Jay's initial post was "This is a well-made and thought-out library, I just don't see a use for it in my situation". I hope that Nick just speed read the post, because ...

Re: Performance Samples - Pacific Ensemble Strings
That is a lovely piece of music. The Pacific aesthetic truly is a very romantic expressive one, it seems. Reminds me of Vista, but with more articulations. Would that be a fair assessment? Defiantly. It feels (and plays) like an evolution of the Vista concept, with the playing being more restrained ...

Re: Performance Samples - Pacific Ensemble Strings
Here's a random thing I wrote when I was messing around with it. Mostly keeping to lower dynamics (it never goes above 100 on CC1). All strings are Pacific apart from a violin line from Vista at 1:09, and the full Vista sections at 1:50 - 2:10. Using the EQ settings Blakus suggested as well as some ...

Re: Performance Samples - Pacific Ensemble Strings
This library ticks so many boxes for me. It's very much like Vista, but more controlled and less over the top vibrato. It has some of the best con sord, soft, and pizzicato samples I've ever heard! I can produce some demos if you guys want to hear anything specific from the library.

Colin is no longer part of 8dio, I believe. Great guy and wonderful composer. Wow! I had not heard. He is a wonderful composer and mockup artist. Some of his tracks just amaze me. Didn't realise Colin had left either. I still regularly go back and listen to his demo for LASS "She was a fair lass ...

This seems to have fixed a major bug I had where if you loaded a VEP project which had multiple instruments loaded into a single sine instance, some of the instruments would fail to load.

Re: Spitfire / Appassionata ("Impulse Legato" Strings)
This sounds like a good step forward for Spitfire in terms of playability (and dynamic layers), however I'm not hearing anything that I can't already achieve using a combination of CSS and Vista. In most demos that I have heard where people are doing direct comparisons to either of these two ...

Re: Audio Modeling SWAM V3 of Solo Woodwinds, Double Reeds, Clarinets, and Sax Released
I would guess he uses his real Oboe :D To my shame I haven't picked up my oboe for a few years now. Biggest issue is reeds are quiet expensive, and only last for a few months or so. It takes a lot of practice and effort to stay in playing form on the oboe, so if I don't have a project to play it ...

Re: Audio Modeling SWAM V3 of Solo Woodwinds, Double Reeds, Clarinets, and Sax Released
The pitch range of the melody is rather suited for an English horn solo or maybe even for Bassoon, if you want that pale tone. With the Oboe it is rather in that range where you don't use the Oboe, if you want a sweet, singing tone. Your use of the mod wheel (or breath controller) for dynamics is ...
